Film Project 1: The edit

After our week of filming it is inevitably time to edit and cut the footage to make our short film. The edit is really crucial in developing our film, because we have the shots now we need to compose it into a narrative of cinematography. It seems our group has the unfortunate circumstance of clashing timetables so today Pat and I were trying to navigate or find a way in which the footage could be edited holistically by the group to make our film.

The editing is really crucial for many reasons but especially in this piece, the rhythm and pace of the shots combined with the audio backing will be instrumental in creating interest and raising questions by the audience. If this isn’t done right then all the work we put into lighting the film, the different shots and experimental ideas we had will not be highlighted for what they are. I’m really nervous to edit this film, partially because it is Izzi’s vision that we are all trying to re-create and I really hope we do it justice.

Tomorrow I’m heading into edit with Pat for a few hours before re-grouping on Monday to finish off a rough cut for the first tutorial of the week on Tuesday. With a bit of a tag team effort we’re managing to split the work evenly and each have a way of putting our skills/input into the final version of the film. I’ve recently come across some premiere pro colour grading packs which will be super cool to utilise to enhance the film and footage we’ve already shot. I’m really excited to get into the edit suites and make our film come to life and showcase some of the really good footage got from the three different cameras.
