Producer Duties

For pre-production as the producer I’ve had to sort out some logistics and forms before starting our filming during mid-semester break. I didn’t really realise this until a few days before we started filming which kind of sucks from an organisational perspective, but at the end of the day they got done which is the main thing. For pre-production I filled out and created a risk management and safety form, call sheets, and release forms for our actress and location.

I’ve never filled out any of these forms before so having to fill these out was an interesting task for me at least, but also an educational one. Filling out a risk safety and management form was interesting because its definitely something I would never think to be something needed to create a film, especially a uni project but after going through some of the examples of risks, I realised how important it was to have. And despite our film being entirely contained inside and being relatively low risk, I can see the importance of a document like this for bigger films and productions.

The call sheets were an absolute mission and a huge learning curve for me. I’ve never ever seen a call sheet in my life and only had a really small idea of what they contained, but I definitely didn’t expect it to have that much information on it. After downloading the sample off media factory I had to google almost all the different abbreviations on there. Stuff like “SWFW” and “P” I had no idea what they meant, why there were in that specific place on the call sheet and really what to fill in there for our film. It was a bit difficult to fill out the call sheets because we don’t have a script for our piece as it is not narrative driven like the other films in the class. Despite the difficulties and curveballs I managed to fill out the call sheets for both days of the shoot being the Monday 27th and the Tuesday 28th.

The only forms I had some sort of relative experience with were the release forms which we used last semester during media one and throughout high school. These were pretty easy to fill out and make which made the process slightly easier. I never realised that the person responsible for these forms was the producer which was cool learning what the different roles in a production were and what their responsibilities entail.

Below are our signed release forms for both our actress and for our location as well as links to a risk management form and call sheet.
