Week six reflection: trial and error

This week we finally all came together for the first time as a group and sorted out most of the logistics and pre-production for our short After Dark. We discussed a lot today so to summarise it pretty quickly for you we finalised:

  • Filming schedule: what, when and where we are filming
  • Booking gear: what equipment we needed and when we needed it – this caused quite the trouble today with the tech team.
  • Logistics of the shoot: props etc.
  • And much more smaller details for the shoot.

So we’ve got a shoot date which will be Monday (27th of August) where we’ll start set up and prep at about 2.30pm at the first location and go on from there to wrap up about 8.30-9pm to be respectful of the home owner. Today I mapped out the schedule for the two (possibly three) day shoot which hopefully gives us enough time to get the footage we want from the location.

Equipment wise we have had to work around the RMIT tech room to make get some equipment for the shoot. We have booked out a Dedo light, a LED light, a Sony x70 camera as well as a tripod. We have managed to get the lighting gear for both nights of the shoot, however having to switch up the x70 for a DSLR for the second night of filming. A worry or question that the group had was that by switching up the cameras it may come out differently in the post, as different cameras do different things and we weren’t really sure how that was going to work. After talking to James he explained that this could be something we could use to experiment with and utilise. Because after all we are using different camera angles and shots for the different concepts so it could prove to give them different feeling.

I’m feeling much more confident today after talking out all the logistics of the project with the group. Trying to get props seems to be the only ‘issue’ left in our way before shooting. We all are on the same page of what we need to do and what we want the piece to look like, but we just need sort out those last minute props being the clock and theĀ  television – which are also crucial parts so hopefully that gets sorted out over the weekend.
