Technically speaking, trying something new?

This is a really strange story but it has a point at the end of it about trying something new. Okay so, my cousin has recently started a photography business firstly focusing on individual portrait photos and real-estate photography. He knows that I’m studying media down here at RMIT so he’s been in touch with me about incorporating videos into his business and doing walk through video things, anyway that’s not really the point. The point is we had some really good chats and talked about our specialities or, uses of the Adobe Suite, gear and equipment and stuff like that. He explained to me how he mostly uses Lightroom to enhance his photos, whereas I use Premiere and Photoshop a lot for uni works and personal projects.

So after talking to him and sending stuff back and forth I’ve sort of fallen into watching YouTube tutorials (like this one) on using Lightroom. Which has been really interesting, I’ve never had to use Lightroom or really need to use Lightroom but it is  interesting learning something new. I’ve just been watching some Peter McKinnon videos and it’s actually really cool just playing around with photos and seeing what you can do with them. My cousin also sent me some of the presets that he bought from different YouTubers which was super nice of him so I’ve been just getting random photos that I have and just hitting them with all these different Lightroom effects and filters which has been kind of fun.

This is probably the first time in a long time that I’ve started just doing something for fun that’s not uni related in the Adobe suite in a long, long time. It’s really interesting and cool to muck around in a new program, but for the moment I really should be focusing on Film Project 1 and other uni assignments that I have due in the next coming weeks. But I definitely feel like I have learnt something new this week which is always a positive.
