Workshop Week 6: The Long Shot

This week we discussed the complexities of the long shot, how intricate each component of the shot need to be.

  • for example consistent lighting throughout the shot
  • acting that is always correct otherwise the whole shot will need to be reset, can be difficult based on amount of extras/ weather/ finances.

So as an activity we set out in little groups with the brief to create a long shot with the theme of a misunderstanding:

plot: to have two people sitting at a desk when a third character enters the room and waves at one of the people sitting however the person that the third character was not waving to, thought she was being waved to.

to pull this scene off as a long shot we story boarded the idea of the camera following the third character into the room and circling her to capture not only her but the two other characters sitting in the desk and their reactions to the wave.

State Library: week 2 lecture Media 1

We were split up into groups and told to explore different parts of the city. I was put with three other Media students and we were off tot he state library to capture some forms of media.

In this photo we are using the component of fore ground as you can see that there is a background but the main focus is on the people within the photo.

In this we used the medium of video, again using fore ground and back ground.

Nothing exists for ‘us’ unless we have faith that it does: Media 1 week 3 reading

I’ve spent the last few days pondering over the text in week 3’s reading for Media 1. It wasn’t the standard informative reading it delved deeper than that, touching on existential issues that permeate humanity as a whole. And spoke many truths of our world. That the type of ‘animal’ we are, we can assume things to be true if the right institution has told us it is. The text referred to this as “closure” for us, that humans can interpret messages and create a coherent stream of thought based on fragments of information. Thus creating cities, nations and ideas from virtually thin air.

The text “Blood In The Gutter” tried to show this idea of “closure” through the mediums used in media. for example using comics as the layout of the text which spoke about using comics as a form of media that works only with the commitment of the reader using closure to interpret the meaning and create a stream of meaning through the comics to create a narrative.

Media 1: Project Brief 1: Self Portrait

These various photographs, video clips and audio snippets, are just a small insight into my life. I have put theses together as a result of my Project brief 1: for media 1. These pieces of media portray parts of my personal profile and make up parts of my identity as they are the things that have influenced my life through experience or as people who have an impact

I wanted to achieve showing people part of my identity that I believe make up me (components):

  • my friends
  • my travels (Sydney)
  • food
  • Water/ the Ocean
  • Chai tea
  • hikes
  • parties
  • My computer and the world of media
  • and the fun i have with the people that have an influence on me

(Below are 6 photographs, 3 video clips and 3 audio recordings that encapsulate part of my personality they are apart of my first assessment for Media 1: Project Brief 1)
