This article mainly discusses and analyses the Chinese market in the year 1998. In the year 1998, Titanic was like a ‘dazzling rainbow’ swallowing up 350 million RMB at the box office. After the screening of Titanic, three large investments in China each of them lose ten million RMB shows at the box office of other local Chinese films. An imported feature of Chinese films was not satisfactory in 1998. The author also pointed out the content of Chinese-made films in 1998 was humdrum leads the Chinese market decreasing. The whole year box office in China has been in a downtown, and only at the tail end of 1998, there was few comedies comes out and effect on the box office.
The article provided a very useful analysis to let people who interested in early Chinese film market knowing the market situation in the year 1998. The author gives some Chinese-made films examples to contrast with Titanic’s box office. Through the contrast, it provided a very clear and detailed analysis for people easier understand the 1998 Chinese film market was not satisfactory.

In this article, the author mainly discusses the challenge and opportunities for the Chinese film industry when face to the globalization. The author pointed out three reasons that why Chinese film industry exists a widening gap compared with American film. First reason is the lack of innovation; the second reason is outdated technology in film production has resulted in the slow development of the Chinese film, and the third reason is the film administrative system was not aligned with film practice. In the end, the author points out few ideas to improve Chinese film industry such as building an East Asia film industry network with Japan and South Korea because those countries share a Confucian cultural heritage when facing to compete with Western films.
The article is a very excellent and useful report for people to understand the situation of Chinese film industry nowadays. The development of Chinese film industry is a huge challenge compete with Western film industry; the author gives some solutions to the government which is very worth pondering. Also, it is very useful for me to doing the research.
