Week 2 | Chris Lederer & Megan Brownlow, ‘’A World of Differences’: Special Report: Global Entertainment & Media Outlook 2016-2020’.
The article A World of Differences written by Chris Lederer analysis the opportunities and trends in the global entertainment industries outlook on 2016 to 2020. Chris points out five dimensions will be roiling the global E&M landscape: demography, competition, consumption, geography, and business models. (p10)
Two aspects of the shifts attract me, demography and geography. I strongly agree on Chris states ‘the young will propel E&M growth through 2020,’ because younger people young people are more receptive to new things, so then, their creativity become stronger will lead the yield increase. And I think young people doesn’t want to lag behind the entertainment and media. The most success example to prove that is the recent hot game Pokemon go rapidly get into younger people’s life, and they lead it to become the top game in app store.
This prediction represents China have the potential become the most top box office country. Why will it become? I think there are 4 points:
1.Because in China, theater as an entertainment consumption, compare with Australia’s ticket price, it’s very cheap, and, for Chinese people they think watch movie in a theater is the cheapest form of entertainment spending.
2.The rise of the popularity of video sites ultra-clear high-definition video, piracy films are gradually losing market it leads to Chinese people enhance the large screen viewing needs.
3.In China, we often have the film supplier promotions, and the price is very low like 9.9RMB(2.15AUD),19.9RMB(4.32AUD), coupled with film companies now are very paying attention on promoting film thus it stimulates people’s enthusiasm.
4.Bandwagon effect.
Thus, I am very looking forward to the development of Chinese film in next few years, and I believed a new era of China film market would be arriving.
