Mona's Fairground

Media 3 #Week 5 Reflection/Epiphany

Last week Friday we shot two scenes, one is the room; the other one is living room. The most interesting thing is one of them is one shot, the other on is multiple shot and can be edit. We divided to two group, support team and executive team. In support team, my job is recording the sound, and I found some important thing should be attention:

1.Directivity of the microphone, it shall be right opposite to the actor/actress’s mouth with appropriate angles;
2.Pay attention to the regulation of input sound volume to avoid overload;
3.Make good cooperation with the shooting staff, to avoid goof.

While the living room is being shot, we first made one shot before we continue our shooting for several other shots. I think what I must learn is how to schedule logically on those shots that I am going to shoot (different scenes and different positions of the camera) after I obtain one script, since I always think that there is huge difference between what I imagined and what will be operated. What you witness and what you shoot through the camera are two totally different styles. This may be due to the camera lens which impose limitation towards the scenes, through the camera, you cannot observe anything else than what is within the shooting scope of the camera, whereas, we can observe multiple more than what we would like to obtain with our own eyes. On the other hand, framing is also very important; whether your framing is good or not is dependent on which site you select, you cannot expect to obtain your ideal shooting scenes by selecting whatever spots. One face of walls, a window or one switch, any article can be closely related to the effects of your framing. For example, one person is pulling a door. This scene cannot be simply covered by merely a wide shot; it may involve one hand closing up, an over-shoulder shot and one medium shot about the person, or alternatively, the medium closing up for the person can be shot from outside of the door; all such aspects constitute prerequisite for one integrate, logical and watch-worthwhile scene.
