What do I like about it?
It addresses many of my interests, fulfilling my favourite topics to read about and incorporating media (photos etc.) that are aesthetic in my opinion. I also like how the website is targeted to females who are intellects yet love fashion and should see this optimistically and not as a stereotypical weakness.
Why do you think it works well?
It works well due to the websites drive to empower women. To let them be proud and revel in their interests. Read the intellectually and have a good laugh at the honesty in each post. The blog covers all interests and the unique way it is smartly written makes the blog more intriguing and fun. Therefore it works well as it creates a space where readers can become invested in their interests and proud of their taste in hobbies and most importantly it’s a carefree, relaxed, fun environment.
How does the author (or editors,publisher) use authoring, publishing and distributing in the online space to get an audience?
Written by Leandra Medine in 2010, a strong women who realised her love for fashion repelled men due to the way her high/ quirky fashion, came across as intimidating. Decided that most women have the same problem, they’re judged by men about something like love and with Medine’s feminising influence her blog was created to repress this judgment and empower women to celebrate their interests. Therefore Medine transferred her own stories into her blog creating works that women similar to her could invest in and enjoy. This was displayed through her hilarious yet honest writing style, the aesthetic editing of her blog and covering intelligently females interests which is stereotypically seen as ‘the stupid/pointless female hobbies’ and changing readers to view them more positively and proudly.
Soooooo that’s a little insight on one of my favourite blogs Man Repeller, I hope that my blog can carry my unique voice and interest many individuals, just like Leandra has accomplished.
