THE AUDIENCE AND THE EDITING PROCESS EXPLORED

In the week 8 media lectorial the key ideas covered where ideas of audience from Brian and the editing process from a guest speaker.

Audiences can be either passive or active (media effects theory) and the ideas of mass culture in relation to mass audience.

Firstly who cares about having an audience?

  • Advertisers
  • Commercial broadcasters, cable networks
  • Production houses and independent program makers
  • Government policy makers
  • Social scientist/ psychologist

And that when considering TV audience that programs are designed to speak to a national audience.

Audiences nowadays multitask while viewing, watch on many different devices and are now enthused in binge watching.

Yet a new wave of audience members are the FANDOM

  • they are considered out of control, obsessive, irrational
  • online fan communities
  • activists
  • ‘fannish modes of engagement’

When talking about the Editing Process:

The most important thing to do is have your filing system downtick. Make many folders for audio, film etc. and save each work exported into the correct assigned folder this just makes your work organised and therefore easier to source.

  2. Rough Cut
  3. Fine Cut
