As part of my studio On The Frame, every two weeks I’ve decided to upload five frames from a film I’ve watched recently. This week I’ve chosen Palo Alto (2013), directed by Gia Coppola. Nodding to the suburban dream of her Aunt’s (Sophia Coppola) The Virgin Suicides frequently, Palo Alto in itself is an independent teen flick, focussing on love, angst and miscommunication. Based off the book from James Franco, the film interweaves the written short narratives; breathing life into the suburban settings with soft colour palettes, claustrophobic spaces and sleepy, hazy synths curated by the talented Devontè Hynes (listen here).
