Consulted Adrian today, most of my concept are too broad.. I think I overcomplicated the assignment.
Feedback from Adrian:
#1 Iphone
-Interesting points on emotional and physical needs ( need to list down a list of emotional and physical benefits)
-Visuals: Satellite networks, Cables, Connections, What the phone sees
-Audio: List of emotional and physical benefits
#2 Tasting
Just focus on Tasting alone.Concept too broad
- Object ( Iphone )
I wrote down a list of applications that I have in my phone, I tried to understand my phone better but I end up noticing my lifestyle by highlighting my frequently used applications. With the diagram above, I realised the applications I used can be divided into emotional and physical needs. How well do we understand a person? Do we know it as well as a phone knows it’s owner? This experiment gives the phone agencies to understand a person, a machine’s understanding might be better than a human’s understanding of a person.
Method:
Video- Visuals will show a list of things each application does, why is it important? why is it used frequently? ( for example: Facebook- connect with friends, news updates)
Audio- sound from the phone ( notifications, vibrating, SIRI’s respond to questions ) – need to write down a list of sounds produced by the phone.
2, Cooking/Tasting
I’ve wrote down a list of what it takes to prepare a good meal. Tasting is important because the final taste of a dish are affected by a lot “actors”. We need fresh ingredient to produce a good dish. I would like to focus on environmental footprints on the food we consumed. For example- 2500 gallons of water are needed to produce 1 pound of meat.
Method:
List of things that affects a good dish- The chef( The chef’s experience) , the ingredients(lack of ingredients, additional ingredients-ingredients adds on to flavour) , the freshness of the ingredient( texture of ingredient) , the method of cooking, time, heat, the quantity, different types of kitchen hardware used ( stainless steal etc.)different methods of cutting- different knives used- different texture of the ingredient. Ingredient- how fine/coarse affects the final taste. freshness- high demand of fresh produce- meat- causes high water pollution ( Cowspiracy)
3.Quote
Quote: A poetic approach to documentary can also be conceived of as a process of wondering (p.143)
Outcome of the video – The potential of this form is that the openness of structure may allow room for critical engagement and an experiential knowing. There is room for the agency of the self and a talking back to the work in the spaces that exist between the elements of the list ( p.147)
IDEA – Montage: overlaying videos and footages of an object + things that are related to the object + things that are not related to the object (a process of wondering), relation to things that might not be related or often thought of. For example (Coffee and plate)?
Object: Coffee grounds
Direct relations: Coffee, addiction, adrenaline, beans, plantation, east timor, flavour, milk, white, black, sugar, soy, caffeine, clock, ticking, sleep, body, reactions, dripping, control, cold, warm, brew, stovetop, french press, cafes,
not directly related: kitchen, car, petrol, sports, acting, fight, conscious, crash, mixed up, laptop, weights, hanger, jacket, boots, receipts, radio, social media, steamer, wood, leather, rice, dreams, coins,
Sound: use direct related sound consistently
Video: start off with direct related videos to non-direct related videos
