Introductory blog Michael Serpell
Hello world or should I say hello uni life, one which by the sounds of it encourages it’s media students to be regular bloggers. To be honest I can’t say I’ve really indulged in blogging as yet but I certainly do blabber a lot in person, as you will almost certainly find out if you have the pleasure to meet me. I suppose in some regards my blog will be not too dissimilar to myself in real life; if the makings of a simple explanation turn into a full-blooded essay or rant don’t be surprised.
I think it’s important before I start critically analysing what we’re studying in class I introduce myself. I’m Michael Serpell, I am a former private grammar school boy without the stereotypes and I enjoy storytelling and entertaining people. I bring my passion into my work as I’ve always aspired to be in front of a camera, in front of a mic or in front of an audience presenting or commentating, entertaining and informing and always telling a story in my own unique way.
My story telling ambitions extend as far as being able to present and portray my wildest imagination on screen by directing, writing, producing, editing and storyboarding. I have always had a passion for films and acting, as I’ve had the privilege to write my own comedic plays and also perform my own comedy routines. I also have a strong interest in Australian and Global Politics and Indigenous Australian affairs. I enjoyed supporting my struggling but beloved bombers and following the Australian Cricket Teamβs success. I get deeply involved with volunteering having the opportunities in the past to work with the Red Cross in disabled and age care and travelling to Cambodia to help under privileged children at the Rainbow Orphanage.
I am of course very excited to be enrolled in the media program at RMIT; it is a broad course with so many opportunities and career prospects to choose from. Of course there is a long way to go but I’ll always remember, “the past is your lesson. The present is your gift. The future is your motivation”.
