Picture = 1000 words ∴ 4 seconds of 25fps video = 100,000 words.

Assessment 2 – Reflection 2 – “Action exercise”

Another exercise undertaken at the beginning of the course, this task involved the simple parameters of a 30-second length, a static camera, and supporting documentation.

With such an open prompt, I decided to feature something about me. The subject in question was my practice of making short documentaries about people I find interesting. These people are often engaged in some sort of artisanal enterprise and it is their sheer constructiveness that appeals greatly to me. Primarily, however, I see it as an important way in which I practice my craft. It is for this reason; I thought it pertinent to document within this exercise, as indeed, the exercise itself is for the advancement of such skills also.

After receiving feedback on the work, my main areas to improve were in relation to framing. Indeed, the sloppiness was a clear indication of how early this work was done in the semester.

As can be seen by the image above, much is left desired in terms of precision and uniformity. If I was to repeat the process, I would indeed make sure that there was no superfluity within the frame. Another piece of feedback I received was on the topic of the content itself. Due to the fact that it was essentially a documentation of the editing process, I understand now that it would indeed have been worthwhile to insert some of the original footage I was editing with the clip. This would have created a pleasing continuity.

I declare that in submitting all work for this assessment I have read, understood and agree to the content and expectations of the assessment declaration
