Final Project Idea development: Conception
As I begin to formulate a concept for my final project, I recall an art session that took place during my primary school years. During the session, we were advised to create an artwork inspired by the Australian painter: Frederick McCubbin. The painting our teacher showed us as reference was McCubbins 1886 work: ‘Lost’
These paintings, dating to the colonial days of Australia’s history have an intriguing way of dealing with composition. McCubbin often creates a blend between foreground and background; a faithful representation of the aesthetic of the Australian bush. It is within these environments that the painter places a character; often solitarily. The striking visual composition that results could indeed be used in my upcoming final project. Indeed, McCubbins central theme of placing a character into their sentiment could borrowed for my own work.
