(Assessment 1) Studio goals and desires

My selection of this studio has been undertaken for the reason of advancing my creative practice both in the technical and theoretical areas of media discourse.

Firstly, I wish to further explore the way in which greater technical knowledge can improve my creative endeavours. An example of this is the familiarisation of industry standard equipment, such as cameras and software. My taking of this studio comes at a crossroads in my creative life. It is at this point that my previously unstructured and sporadic media practice has begun to be moulded into one more similar to industry standards. Not only is my practice being formalised regarding creative tangible output, but also in terms of the theoretical procedures that are designed to enhance and extend creative thinking.

An example of this is the way in which a certain amount of pre-production is required for all our tangible media endeavours. Not only does this align my expertise more closely with industry requirements, but it also serves to encourage critical and dynamic thinking. This type of thinking is fostered well by this studios aims, and will be very valuable to my media practice and creativity in general terms.

My goals for this studio involve the advancement and extension of my critical and creative thinking. By the studios completion, I hope to have completed a number of media artefacts and have a thorough understanding of the skills necessary for a thriving media career both economically and creatively.  One area I am discovering myself to be deficient in is that of proper and efficient video editing technique. I have realised that, although I have been editing in premiere since I was 13, I have not being doing so very efficiently. This has been the case due to my obliviousness to the way some keyboard shortcuts can greatly enhance work speeds. Furthermore, in the case of file handling and naming structures, I see this studio as my beginning point for finally getting it right.
