Interviews – The Psychology
There is always a hint of nervousness when one does something that, in adventure, exceeds pouring oneself a Milo. On this occasion, the author of my slight apprehension was the thought of approaching strangers in such a way that would invite them to share their beliefs and values on camera.
However, using a technique which I am still trying to perfect; I replaced the thought of nervousness with that of “how good would it be for the project…”. And that was the end of that drama. So with a stack of release forms in hand, I began approaching each passerby and asking in a very warm voice whether they would “like to talk to us for a few minutes about wearable technology”.
And it worked. In around an hour we had ten full-length responses; plenty for our multimedia essays. What struck me was actually how willing people were even when an ugly release form was placed in their hands. Also very helpful was the fact that I was part of a team. Without Tash on camera and Gloria on sound, the task would have been impossible.
