Media Workshop

Today in our Media workshop my group members and I brainstormed some ideas for our topic of ‘Audiences’. We constructed a mindmap, discussed concepts, agreed upon a media artefact, and began to research the topic further in order to create our annotated bibliographies. Liam formed a facebook page so that we could communicate with each other regularly and stay up to date with our work. This would also be where we would post the findings of our reseach for our bibliographies.
We all managed to find some incredibly fascinating and motivating scholarly writings and studies relating to Audiences. Our discoveries definetly prompted enthusiasm for our topic and for the potential of an exciting and interesting media artefact. advanced
We all came to an agreement that producing a movie would definetly be the most effective form our project could take. In relation to our topic of audience, a movie was definetly going to be the most powerful and entertaining form of media for us.
I believe that if we all work together, research and understand our topic effectively, and pull our weight in the group project accordingly, we have the potential to create a great Media Artefact.

In our media workshop today our group discussed key concepts and current considerations to Brian and the whole class. Our group had now confirmed that we would be creating a documentary called ‘Imovie’. The documentary would explore the ways in which technology advancements and the notion of ‘audience’ have developed and progressed grown in a parallel manner. As the context in which audiences consume media has been the most pivotal point of revolution within the industry of communication and media. The vast bulk of the current media landscape is now primarily generated, witnessed and experienced online.
I wrote up a little word document that outlined the main beliefs and ideas about Audience our group was focusing on. I read out some key points of this document to a pretty well received and seemingly interested group of students!
We also presented a little snippet of the movie. This was basically our prospective introduction for the documentary and showed the opening credits being presented on an iphone screen, hence the fitting name ‘iAudience’. Brian appeared to be pleased by the form and direction our film was taking. He asked us further questions on the style of documentary and the main ways in which we would present our footage and information. Brian’s enquires are generally a way for both him and us to develop a deeper understanding of the topic at hand and continue to explore and question the media artefact and key points we are attempting to communicate. This always proves to be helpful and keep the group on our toes in regards to brainstorming and devising.

In our media workshop today our group decided we would use the time to film our original footage sections. This involved both Ella and I doing some presenting and hosting, aswell as taking some shots of ourselves, Brian, and other students in the class to create an interesting montage.
We also ensured that we filmed each other completing routine tasks in class as a way to present some behind the scenes clips. The montage filming went extremely well and other members of the class were more than happy to help us out with it.
What proved more difficult was the filming of my presenting and hosting section. I definetly felt a little awkward and forgetful at the beginning of the filming process. However after a practice few shots I found myself feeling much more comfortable and confident presenting and speaking in front of the camera! It did take us a fair few trials before we managed to nail each shot. But I believe that this is definetly a normal occurrence!
All in all, the media workshop today proved to be a successful and efficient use of time. Each team member was amazing, played their part, and was constantly supportive and respectable to one another which made the entire process enjoyable.
