Project One: Thoughts

After completing the first project for this studio, the case study about an online video of my choice and seeing several presentations of other peoples’ I’m enlightened by the diversity in choices and have made some extra notes on elements of online video I had’t really considered before.

This includes:

– Deconstruction of media conventions
– The role of data collecting in targeting audience
– The role of social media and interactiveness in producing online media

Update from Friday 13/3 studio – More observations & notes from Project One presentations:

– What constitutes an online video; can a single image and audio  be considered a video if the visual was added to a video sharing platform? I believe in majority of cases the answer is no however there are some circumstances it could fulfil an artistic purpose. This could be interest to look into
– Online videos may be produced simply to celebrate videography
– Interactive documentary exists, 89 Steps is an example where you experience a story with the characters and it also revisits old videos/narratives to produce a multilinear narrative
– Crowds can be used to interactively source new material
– A review can even be used to brand yourself.
– Soothing quality to video reviews
-Video essay; compilations in an artistic order
