First week back at Uni, and I can already feel the stress mounting up. In this week’s first class, I was introduced to what will be the outcome for Media 6. In a nutshell, it encompasses industry-based networking, plus a whole lot of career stuff and assessments. You can say the pressure’s on. But let’s put aside how dreadful and demanding this semester would be, and let’s look at one of the topics that was discussed was to do with technological advancement and where does media makers fit in the evolution of technological drive?
As media makers – it’s mostly between the content creator (us) and the consumer (audience), and the relationship between the two, that matters the most. Technology, however, plays a vital role in this relationship as creators rely heavily on it to deliver quality content to the audience. Think about it this way, as an audience or consumer, when you see the ‘next-big-thing’, what’s the first thought that comes to your mind? “I want that!” In the context of the media industry – technology such as drones, 360degree photography, AR, VR, and the whole lot, these are a few examples that will benefit content creators, like myself, be able to deliver content to our viewers. On the flip side, viewers will be able to immerse themselves within the media product – they will no longer be bound by just simply viewing the content – they will be able to interact with product – as well as collaborate with other viewers. Media content will move past “observers”, and head towards a more “user interactivity” type of technology.
