This past week we were able to carefully think about our idea and finalize it before implementing it. Continuing from my previous post, I have finally decided that my question will be: What type of social media posts do businesses need to make to effectively utilize social media to attract consumers and maintain their consumer-brand relationship?

I have also determined the type of business I am going to do: an online thrift store. Initially, I was contemplating between this and a pre-order online bakery. However, considering the COVID-19 situation, I believe the online thrift store will be more accessible.

As for my target audience, I presume they will be 18-29-year-old females as my clothing items are more suitable for that age group, and after looking through the Sensis data, I have deduced that I am only going to focus on Instagram. Although according to the data, Facebook is the most used application, I am more familiar with Instagram and I believe it is a more suitable platform to start an online business. With that said, here are a few findings from the Sensis data that are relevant to my business:

  • 33.4% of 18-29-year-old respondents use social media 10-20 times a day.
  • 74.8% of 18-29-year-old respondents use Instagram.
  • 69.4% of female respondents use social media to search for clothing/fashion.
  • 56% of respondents who did their research on social media led to a purchase
  • 66.2% of female respondents follow clothing/fashion companies on Instagram.
  • 59.8% of 18-29-year-old respondents follow clothing/fashion brands on Instagram.

Thus, I have concluded that my target audience is 18-29-year-old female Instagram users who are interested in fashion.
