BOX STUDIO

a little reflection.

We worked a lot on producing the over the shoulder 6 degree shots from both subjects POV this I thought worked out really well. We really focused on getting the same height, and angle as well as maintaining the shot at eye level in a tight close up of the subjects face. We felt 3 shots was all that was necessary for these few lines and I think it worked out really well. It set the scene and moved right into the lines without too much going on. The exposure and focus were very accurate and looked of good quality except for the final shot in which we didn’t account for the harsh spotlight in the background so despite the subjects face being exposed correctly the wall washes out and has a slight glare to the shot. So if we reshot this we should reconsider exposure to counteract for this light. I think the sequencing of the shot worked out alright the only issue I noticed was continuity, some of the head angles and expressions changed form shot to shot which meant it didn’t flow as smoothly. It appeared that the first shot of the subject looking at the other subject didn’t flow into the shock of seeing that Lenny was hurt. I think this also has to do with the actors, we weren’t particularly of high standard so this made it harder. However, next time keeping in mind the actions that are produced for the scene and repeating that on every angle or shot is necessary. I also have noticed that by incorporating the over the shoulder shot instead of just a close up of the character it brings a much more inclusive element to the sequence which i really like and connect with. I think this helps with both continuity and fluidity of an action or scene. My editing as well for these short clips has got a lot more efficient, I actually enjoy editing these pieces together noticing what works well where and how changing thing around can create such a different meaning.

WHAT I HAVE LEARNT … ME AND ISOBEL CANNOT ACT AND SHOULD STAY BEHIND THE CAMERA NOT IN FRONT OF IT.
