Reflection Week 5

So throughout the Interview assessment I wanted to explore other ways to portray a person. I chose to interview my Dad on his trip to Nepal at the end of the year. I wanted to try a different location outside to test the lighting and I wanted to practice working with different sound elements. Challenges here arose as it was a very windy day with many outside noises such as helicopters and people talking. However I managed to capture average audio elements to my piece. In my previous interview I used a tripod and a white backdrop to focus on very still shots with little movement. With this however I wanted to observe the effects of handheld and I think it really communicates a more personal and relaxed nature to the piece. I put this piece in colour because I felt like it worked better that way. At certain points in my editing i didn’t make a sharp enough cut and there are certain moments where you can hear him finishing a word which I should’ve cut out. Overall I was disappointed with the quality of image, I felt like perhaps the focus wasn’t as good as it could’ve been and likewise the exposure and points changes. This was due to the sunshine coming in an out and I was having to adjust as I shot.  I definitely learnt that a quiet space with little wind is a prime spot to shoot in. The reason I wanted to change this up though is so I could experience different conditions and see the results. I wanted to make sure I was able to practice different skills so I can use the camera to the best of my ability no matter where I am filming. It has also allowed me to be more specific in making choices of where to shoot and what factors need to be considered.
