Directing Offbeat Season 2

As part of my journey in wanting to get a career in the film and TV industry, I have been searching to develop some experience and learn about behind the scenes of production.

When RMITV called out for people wanting crew positions 889_477632099105569_6031822298202593088_non a student TV show I immediately replied. The pr
ogram is RMITV’s daily live to air production “Offbeat”, and is an entertaining and fun show which incorporates, interviews, music and live performances. I am using this as an opportunity to broaden my horizons and learn about all the different behind the scenes crew roles. I want to gain experience in a professional environment and see how it all works. Through this season I really want to find a key role or roles that I particularly enjoy so I can gain further knowledge and experience in that particular field both within and out of RMIT. We were the first group to produce Season 2 Episode 1 of Offbeat, which was very exciting. However we were all very nervous because none of us had done anIMG_7765ything like this before. I was the director for the first show, in this role I had to work with the floor manager and camera crew to set up the cameras to make sure they looked the way I wanted. I had to discuss with the assistant director what shots we thought looked good for the set up. The assistant director also had to tell me when ad breaks were coming up or when I had to go to a sting. My main job was to use the control buttons to change shots, I had to make the decision as to how I wanted the episode to look. I also had to put in the graphics and the EVS. Despite a few mistakes the show went really well and I think we all had a good time. Now for the following weeks we will all have a better idea as to what we are doing.

I will attach soon some of the best bits that will be uploaded to Facebook and Youtube

I look forward to the rest of this season and am excited to learn about production and crew roles whilst working within “Offbeat”.
