so initial thoughts for our final assessment…
the task is to in groups of no more than 4 (even though we have 5) to create 2 videos of a sequence or scene thst focuses on lighting and we spend the next 6 weeks going through pre production, production and post production to complete it.
Im actually really excited about this assignment, I think we have a good group that’ll create something really beautiful.
we got into groups last class and despite a few of us not there we got a lot of ideas out. I think we’re in a really good starting position to get everything organised and planned.
Here is what I wrote down upon our first discussion in terms of what we want to create. We allocated one person to write a short script no more than 2 pages just purely so we don’t have to bother with putting a lot of effort into story and script. Once that’s done as a group we can figuire out how best to light the scene for what we want.
I also put together two little mood boards as inspiration for what I envision for the two videos. I put these mood boards together just as an idea for what I think we’re a trying to achieve. Obviously as this was only our first discussion I’m sure lots will develop and change but I’m excited for what we produce by the end of it.
In addition to these slides we also added in a script example within our presentation. Screenplay-10-ri1swm
Our feedback from our presentation was firstly to focus on just one of these ideas. Initially we thought of doing two completely contrasting videos; night and day, outside and inside, warm light and cold light as just a few examples. For each of these we wanted to create really beautifully shot and well lit sequences.
Upon reflection we were told to perhaps just focus on one. So we are now thinking to film our second sequence outside at night, and film multiple trials of it to see how we can better our scene. We may end up doing this entire scene twice, the first time as a trial for what we think is required to light the scene in the way we want. The second may end up being a more intense and better production as we would’ve learnt what we actually need in order to create what we want.
I think only time will tell if we will end up shooting the other scene, I think it would be interesting to trial with none the less.
We have sourced a location that is accessible to use with no people, this will be a carpark. in addition to this multiple people in our group have lighting and camera gear that will be easy to use. We also have access to a smoke machine which we want to play around with. If required we can also hire more lights from school.
We are trailing this on Thursday night so between now and then we will need to try and organise as much as possible but in general it will mostly be a lighting trial and figuring out what looks best on camera.
