LIGHTING TEST 1 – IN CLASS (CONVENIENT LIGHT)

TRIAL 1.

  • with this shot, I was in control of the framing, lighting setup
  • we placed the subject about a metre away from a window, with a slightly stronger light source than other positions in the room
  • Facing the subject on a slight diagonal towards the light gave a softer light effect wrapping around the subjects face.
  • I think the composition of the shot is alright, initially I intended it to be a close up of the face to highlight more shadow and i wanted the subject of centre with a bit of headroom. ultimately he moved a lot and I didn’t operate the camera so it wasn’t as clean as it could’ve been. NOTE TO SELF; follow the subject through movement.

TRIAL 2. WITH ME IN IT

  • this shot I was in so I didn’t control how it was set up
  • I personally feel like there is too much negative space on the left, perhaps a closer shot or the subject being more in the last third would be better.
  • good headroom
  • I particularly like to note how different the light shadow falls by simply changing a few degrees of the face direction. I really love how that can change the perspective of the shot.
  • overall the shots are really well exposed and I actually prefer them in black and white, I think it allows the light to be more definitive and is easier to deconstruct my minimising the colour within the frame.
