An Object .

“A one minute video and audio soundscape of an object then write about it”

I wasn’t in class the other day but luckily I was filled in on what we had to do over the next two days. These were my instructions so whether or not I’m fulfilling the brief is beyond me, nonetheless I thought Id just give it a go and do something. So with a slight rush for time I grabbed the most interesting object around me “a voss bottle” with regular water in it. In shooting this object my main initiative was to show the bottle via angles and movement to convey the sleekness and elegance this bottle has. I figured on the black marble table with a white wall background would be fitting. I ensured the natural light was quite strong as I feel this captures an element of nature. Water I feel has a strong connection to the outside and the elements so were I to repeat this exercise with more time I would’ve  placed it on a rock by a waterfall or river. However with the resources I had I wanted to ensure a light environment was reflected on the bottle. I think having a lighter background allowed viewers to focus on the object and focus in on the details of the bottle. I didn’t want to just showcase the bottle itself so to speak to I did add a few elements of the contents water and the movement of water. I think this adds a calming element to reflect the object and I think works well with the portrayal of a relaxed and natural looking bottle. Though editing I think firstly I overly colour corrected, I wanted just to brighten it up and make it a bit more lively however I think had I toned it down a little it would be a bit more subtle which would’ve been more effective. I also used a variation of slow motion, reverse, split screen and repetition basically to keep the video a bit more interesting and also to show the object in a variety of ways. This was also a fun way just to trial out a few more effects in Premiere. Likewise with sound, I used my partners music audio that he’s been working on with guitar. With this I then reversed it to give it a different perspective and rhythm. I think this came out sounding quite interesting, a little clustered but calming at the same time. I also used water sounds in areas underneath, in some areas this is also reversed.  I added some words into it but these are very quiet as i really didn’t want to hold focus onto the spoken word.

Im not entirely sure if thats what I was supposed to write, either way I can come back and add some more comments tomorrow when I find out if this was what I was supposed to do. Not to worry though, it was a fun little exercise to piece something together in such a short amount of time.

Here is the video, many things I would change, I might need up going back to it later and refining a lot of the elements to both the video and the sound.

UPDATE

Im pretty sure we were meant to do a “haptic sketch” I no idea what that is, and google is providing no answers. I shall find my answers in class on Thursday.
