We were each given out a reading that we had to list 20 things we were unsure about, as a group we collated our ideas to find the 5 most important thing we questioned in the reading and wanted further explanation of.
5 most important things we found that we didn’t understand. I had a go at trying to understand one of the points myself before it was explained to us.
“the book works like an experimental mnemonic”
the meaning of this statement we discussed as a pattern or ideas of system of remembering something. That you’re given enough information to remember something without spelling it out. mnemonic is used in psychology as a device to remember lists or other information. Its a process used to shorten or connect ideas to trigger memory. Such as remembering music notes E G B D F (Every Good Boy Deserves Fruit) is an example we would often use. So in relation to the reading this could be the way documentary and lists could all be interconnected like a web to remember ideas or systems.
“decisions around the appropriate amount of glue required”
glue, a sticky substance that holds things together. The appropriate amount so perhaps this could indicate that a specific and relevant things are.
“the heuristic approach requires a greater investment of time”
“than setting the elements up as an algorithmic recipe that is definitive in the understanding”
“a particular formal approach”
