Translating Observation IND EX 3 REFLECTION.

For this exercise we filmed some clips in class and then using everyones footage plus our own we had to create a piece. From watching the clips I wanted to go for a theme to have some direct when editing it together. I chose to communicate distortions, this including reflections, mirrors, shadows. I wanted to focus of 6 or 7 shots showing them all as they are and then showing them in different ways some zoomed in and layered to create different perceptions. By lowering the opacity of them and putting many different layers on it or changing the effect.

Overall I wasn’t entirely pleased with the outcome of the piece. I thought that by using these shots for too long would be boring so I wanted to use them for about 5 seconds each. In order to show the distortions I tried overlaying which I think is most successful at the end. However I feel overall it doesn’t flow as well as I would’ve liked. I found this task in particular quite challenging I wasn’t quite sure how to create an engaging piece. I felt like the shots I took were nicely filmed, good composition and exposure and i used handheld in order to create more of that distortion feel. However as a whole I don’t think all the pieces really flow as well as I would’ve liked.

I think i would’ve live to experiment a little more with focus and depth of field, I think that would’ve added nice depth to the piece. I ended up choosing mostly what I ended up shooting but I based it off the idea of what I saw some groups doing, the shadows and the trees in nature which spurred the idea of distortions.

I added as ARRI ALEXA basic colour over the top to enhance the lights and darks and add a bit of dynamic to the piece which I think looks really nice. I also added some music that would enhance this idea of distortions it starts of quite slow and nice and then gets a bit more intense which I think is used well within the piece.
