Workshop Week 11

In our workshop we also discussed the best way to get started in finding our placement. Louise gave us a few pointers about how to get started and recommended we start looking early. Here are a few things we should start to do in our research.

  1. What companies in Melbourne?
  2. Buy a trade magazine (that advertising industry uses and you’ll find Melbourne companies, whose got work etc.)
  3. research
  4. contact either the creative director or production manager, I’ve just seen your recent advertisement in this magazine, for these recents I’ve got some stuff to offer you, I’m an RMIT student…

For myself I really want to find a work placement with something that I enjoy doing and somewhere I can see myself working at, so I am looking into film and TV production. Some ideas I have had in relation to this is to ask my sister emily who works within a media agency for advertising, my auntie who also works within the advertising and marketing industry and has developed creative ideas for target and Kmart. Another resource I will ask is my teacher Louise Turley who’s had extensive experience and networks within the tv industry. In class she suggested i also look into the encore directory to seek out production companies. I could also potentially look into working for channel 10 but other production studios I want to look could include:

  • docklands studios
  • Jonathan M shiff productions
  • renegade productions

I will also look into a other areas which I am interested in such as companies such as world vision, national geographic, basically companies that look at travel and volunteering in terms of making media content for those companies. One of my favourite art, travel magazines Paper sea quarterly is another placement I will look into.
