NetMed Week 8

The reading (Oatway, Jay, Apr 26, 2012, Mastering Story, Community and Influence : How to Use Social Media to Become a Socialeader Wiley, Hoboken. 97-109. ISBN: 9781119943457.) this week basically discusses online communities and how we can get involved. A few places to find a community …

  1. Check out bloggers, and interact with their site
  2. Professional groups (often through social media) some groups require permission, look for amount of members
  3. Topic chats e.g. twitter

when you find a site or community

  • start following it
  • keep database updated
  • interact with community and be present
  • foster relationships
  • find other people to join community

A quote within our reading ‘We are judged by the company we keep. When combined, actions and relationships create a foundation for social capital.’ – Brian Solis. To me this refers to to communities online and how when we interact with them and form new relationships by communicating with the site we are creating a new form of society online.

In previous weeks we had to choose 5 potential communities, here are a few I came across.
