Jacksgap is a collective of blog and video projects, this begin in 2012 as a youtube account that was meant to document their lives in their gap year. The videos often included witty, personal and quite a relaxed style about very random topics in their everyday lives. Along the way the owners of Jacksgap found a passion for traveling, volunteering and storytelling and what used to be just home videos turned into a series of documentaries of the world showcasing the places they’ve been and the people and places important to them. Their passion and overall aim is to “do good” which is basically what motivates their continual involvement in campaigns that help raise awareness for cases they admire.
They have both a Youtube channel and Website that documents all the projects they complete.
l absolutely love how this all began by a simple video about nothing in particular to know with a large brand where they travel the world, make videos and raise money for organisations, to having a small team that all work together on the videos and projects. I think I have basically learnt that everything will take time and it will be a progression of learning and experiences to get to where I want to be.
This has been a great inspiration for me to kickstart where I myself want to be in say 5 years time. As previously posted about I will continually put myself out there to be involved in productions through RMITV and hopefully make my way up to other larger scale productions. In the meantime however I want to continually focus on my own creativity, to practice new technical skills of videography. To do this I have decided to use Youtube as my platform for uploading videos that can be content viewed by others.I want this to be a network that showcases my progression and improvement as I journey through this course. Over the next year or so my aim is to save up for a proper video camera that I can use all the time, in the meantime I will have to borrow from RMIT. The content I intend to post will begin with my old videos from school, a few travelling videos I have made, I will also continually upload the videos I make within my Media 1 workshops and the assessment tasks I complete. From there I want to start being more creative and and start experimenting with different techniques. Currently I don’t have a clear direction but over time I hope that my videos will narrow down to a certain avenue. I’m really excited about where this will take me, but I’m more excited just to gain more experience and find my own style.
Here is the link to my Youtube Channel which currently is empty but soon enough will be filled with videos documenting well Im not quite sure yet.
