Offbeat – Audio production and EVS

So the past two weeks my role within offbeat has switched to Audio production assistant and I also learnt briefly about EVS this week. Audio for starters is something I have never done before so it was very daunting when I told to assist with it. This basically meant I just asked a 100 questions to make sure I was doing the right thing and it was my attempt to learn as much as possible within the short amount of time I had. Our main role began my setting up all the cords, the lapels, microphones, having to change this during ad breaks and ensuring that all the sound is clear and the correct volume. We had a few audio problems this week something to do with the audio based on the masters which it shouldn’t be. I don’t know enough about audio to know what this means however it was very interesting to get the basic knowledge of it and how to assist when needed. I think this so far has been my least favourite role, for me I really love to get fully immersed in the production side. I like having a say in how the production should go and working with others to achieve that. I prefer having to handle more and being active in production. However it was a great experience just to know some of the basics of it, and was a great learning experience which further emphasised in my mind what I really want to do. I also got a brief look over EVS which seems pretty straight forwards in terms of working it but again is not a role I would wish to pursue.
