Project Brief 2_ Media Self-Portrait v2.0

I was trying to convey who I am within one theme and idea, which is ultimately what I love the most and where I feel most at home. For me nature, outdoors and adventure have always been a part of me; whether it’s camping with friends, adventure holidays around the world, hiking or spending time at the beach it is always the place I feel most relaxed and happy. I was hoping to showcase what I do the most, and what makes me …me!

An important part I found was to communicate the four qualities that I think most represent me, this I wanted to showcase through the four photos. My mum laughing communicates the fun and happy side of me, the hands show the generosity and kindness, the water portrays optimism I find in life and the flower growing in cement resembles resilience and dedication. I used editing of the photos and the sound effect of the camera clicks just to focus on the single photo and what it represents. I purposefully had no other audio and made the image smaller to highlight the importance of these images to who I am. Similarly there are specific shots I have includes such as the watch on my arm which I used to portray the importance of time representing how I strive to live every moment to my fullest.

Something that I wanted to do was combine lots of different audio; music, voice over, sound effects to all represent who I am. I really wanted them to all overlay so that only certain parts are heard and certain times and then you hear something else. As much as the footage and the photographs are my representation of myself I wanted to audio to be an outsider perspective using family and friends.

I think the most successful part of this was the combination of audio with the visual, I really like overall how the whole piece works together. The least successful part I think could be the variation of footage and also the quality of both the filming and the film when exported. I originally had aimed to film more things on this hike such as climbing, eating, maybe camping and showing the night sky etc. but the opportunity for this wasn’t there. Next time I want to trial with a higher quality camera, using more diverse footage and experimenting with focus and camera angles etc. I also want to trial more on Premiere as its still very new to me. I’m hoping the more I create videos and learnt the more i will find my own creative style. But in general I think with the resources I had available it was able to show me in my most comfortable form. There are so many different ways to communicate who I am but for me I wanted to show that I am a happy, kind, optimistic, resilient individual who loves to laugh and spend time outside.
