Project 3: Pitch and Teaser Package

Teaser Poster

Classified

Mine and Karl’s project pitch is the story of ” Classified” a political/thriller that follows the intriguing story of a detective trying to solve a murder case by also uncovering a big mystery linked to the British Monarchy.

Working on the story and baseline for Classified was duo collaboration, like all the work for our project. Karl and I took to an idea i had written about for an earlier assignment and began to further expand on the story and both add element to bring it to the final product. We wanted a story that we could tell simplistically, but whilst engaging the audience and giving them a variety of access points for our transmedia storytelling. We spent time working together and brainstorming our ideas and going through the story step by step to see where our ideas would most successfully achieve this. We broke down the main plot points and found that we wanted to tell the story mainly through non-digital platforms.

The ideas for our none digital platforms came in the form of “evidence/case file reports” that the protagonist of the story would collect and receive. Each one detailing the latest updates of the story and the most recent evidence to come to light in the case. This gives the audience agency and the hook we aim to achieve, it does so by getting them involved and invested in the story and its outcome, having them able to follow along and feel part of the action. Karl and I wanted to give examples of the sort of evidence and the vibe and genre of our story for what the audience can expect in our teaser trailer.

The concept for the teaser trailer was a mix of ideas we had received from multiple source, class viewing such as ‘Sherlock’ as well as self sourced and other related media, like the teaser trailers from Marvel/Netflix series ‘Jessica Jones’. We set up a fake detectives office at my home and shot our teaser, staging all the props and links to our transmedia platforms we aim to present. The idea of following the detectives crime board, sets up the mystery, giving us some form of context as to the story and the case we are studying. The audience is instantly given access to clues and evidence that will resurface to make appearances later on as the story unfolds. We gave the trailer a dark, moody feel suggesting the overall vibe of the story. We wanted to present a gloomy setting from the perspective of the detective/ protagonist who has to find the answers to the mystery, giving the audience the impressions they are coming along on this secret and mysterious case.

Similar ideas followed for our poster, we wanted to present the audience with setting, genre and mystery. The darker and more sinister twisted image of London is made to represent, not only murder, but the dark underworld of corruption, crime and evil that runs through the city which is presented in the criminal case the audience gets to follow along with.
