Metallics for Spring in 80s musings of 2015

Just the look of the Galloway reading make brain hurt so imabee focusing on the Gitelman.

There is a section of this reading that talks about this unspoken notion that we seem to subscribe to about the future being finite and somewhat pre-determined. “Modernism” is apparently over, and we talk about the movement as if we can’t actually get any newer/more advanced than we are now. Which is a fairly ridiculous concept, especially when you begin to consider books titled ‘A History of the Future’ etc.

It’s kind of like every single time travel movie made in the 90s or earlier, that imagined us all in floating cars living in a cybercity above the clouds by 2015. For some reason in all of these future musings, the fashion du jour seems to involve a lot of metallics. The most obvious example of all of this is of course Back to the Future 11 or whatever it was, where Marty McFly found his future children in 80s style space suits in flying cars, and the asshole from the series makes heaps of money placing a huge bet on a horserace all coz Marty leaves the form guide lying around in some trash can. (This entire synopsis is based on something I last watched maybe 12 years ago so bear with me).

Space suits aside, I wonder (and obviously doubt) if there will ever be a time where everything that is to be invented is invented, and there is no longer room for originality or new ideas. Or will the world implode before then? To be honest the whole concept is starting to mess with me…
