Ecologies of Noticing Week 1 – What am I doing well?
While i’m only a few days back at uni, I suppose now is as good of a time to examine what I am doing well with, and what I should be doing differently.
So far I am handling the attendance of Uni pretty well, and maintaining a good balance with what I’m doing. This semester I will be pretty busy juggling work and Uni. I had originally intended to differ this semester so that I could properly fulfil my management role at work, and also lend more time to my brother in helping him open a cocktail restaurant.
My timetable has enabled me to still attend Uni, but my main struggle (which is what I can do better) will be putting in the hours outside of general attendance. This is something which Adrian touched on today.
I need to begin taking notes on the readings that I do. Not just in this class, but in others also. Even with work I probably should take more notes and write more lists. TLDR write down stuff from your head.
Ecologies of Noticing Week 1 – What Have I Learnt?
What have I learnt?
It is hard to have already consolidated all the information that I have been swamped by on day one. I was introduced to some key terms by Adrian (who shaves his legs) such as Agency. My understanding of this term so far is that everything is constructed in an anthropocentric manner.
We, as humans, believe everything is shaped around us, and is told from our perspective and experience. This is the same with stories. While previously, stories and cinema particularly were seen to be from the perspective of those who can afford publication and access to filmic materials. This was often rich white men. Technology has burgeoned to a point where nearly every one has access to tell and document a story. Every person can create. But it is still only people who can tell stories.
But are we in control of these stories? Do we have unlimited freedom? Or are there constructs? We are told to film certain ways, to write on paper, to record with film, to edit in a linear manner that makes sense to humans and story and the literate.
My understanding is still very limited so far, but I am interested in learning and understanding this further.
