Such as the 80% of profits are produced by only 20% of the employees and so on. Also, the author show an example of highway maps, which help the viewer have a deep understanding of this idea.

The Small World( week 8 reading)

To be honest, this is a long reading, the author substantially describe the network between the people, how the built their network? How they rationally use their network to do somethings etc.

The autour use this figure to show the circles of network between different people. The weak ties play crucial role which is similar with a bridge to communicate with the outside world. “Often our close friends can offer us in finding job. They move in the same circles we do and are inevitably exposed to same information. To get new information, we have to activate our weak ties.” (Barabási 2002)

In other worlds, the whole world can be divided to different separate circles, we may relate to others by various of ties, if we can rationally utilize those ties, we may get more information even helps from others. However, one of the basic thing we can not forget that  is be kind and be genuine to others.

What is Network Media?

We studying the network media class in this semester, but what is the network media? Some people may say network media means the computer science used in media, or just explain it in a easy way,  giving example to show it, such as Facebook or Twitter. However, how to comprehensively explain network media  in a scientific way? Maybe, this video will give us some answer.

Radio Project

God, we finally done our television project in last week. It was a quite hard but enjoyable process foe me. The biggest challenge for me is  is the presenting. This is my first time to be a English presenter, honestly,  it is difficult for me if i want do it so well.  Anyway, i have try my best to do it.

Now, our radio project in ongoing. The radio project is so different with television project in the theme selecting. The theme which we chose for radio project must can be used sound to show it completely. The host program for us is  360 documentaries which  produces radio documentaries and features about people’s lives, events and ideas in Australia and overseas. The programs might be social documentaries, docudramas, profiles, cultural features, on-the-road-radio trips, audio essays, radio verity and other sound excursions. ABC 360 is a radio program by using perfect soundscape, interesting perspective and idea to show the specific tale come from the contemporary life and all the tales they talked are mostly depend  on a specific people.  Hopefully, we can do our project same good as 360 documentary did.

Review

Mona writes some her own ideas of technology are independent in society. For example, she think the development of technology may change the society, especially for some people’s status. she also find extra reading to support her idea.

Jane talks her idea about the some people who like to show their everything in Facebook. In fact, i am so support her opinion, because i can not understand  the reason too. When you show your 24 hours life, you may affect your friend who followed you, no one want know all of it. Sharing part of interesting thing to friends it fine,it is good, but it doesn’t mean it is suitable to show all things about yourself .

Kelsey writes the quotations about Shields reading.  Such as “351 — the transformation, through framing of outtakes into totems.”” 345 — the singular obsessions endlessly revised.”

Is technology Neutral?

In this week symposium, all the teachers and  students are discuss one popular question is that is technology neural? In my perspective, the answer is so obvious. Of course not. The technology in themselves are not neutral.

“So the iPhone isn’t the problem, it’s our hearts in relation to the iPhone. The internet isn’t the problem, it’s what we put onto the internet, or what we download from it. The thing, in itself, isn’t evil. It’s what we do with the thing.”( Mike Cosper 2011)

Technology won’t ask people to do anything, so any decision which made by human are depend on their own desire.  The numbers of new technology used in medical science, the scientist utilize them in a reasonable way, it is directly  develop the society.  Also the gun is controversial topic. Some people think gun is not a good invention, because it make killing happened, however, “If there were no sin in the world, there would be no need for assault rifles with armor-piercing bullets. So its goodness is limited to an unfortunate but necessary function inside of a sin-shattered world.” ( Mike Cosper 2011) When get it, but i doesn’t mean we must use it, but in some situation, some people need it.  “it’s merely to point out that these objects influence us profoundly because they open possibilities and make easier a whole world of action that was previously unavailable or much more difficult. “( Mike Cosper 2011)

So, the technology in themselves are not neutral, the people need establish appropriate boundaries if is possible, and do it more better.

some ideas from week 7 reading

The reading  ‘Theoretical Frameworks”from Murphie and Potts provides a strong debate between technological determinism with cultural materialism. I am unfamiliar with technological determinism, because we already recognized this theory  in communication history class.  Technological determinism claims that the technology is independent in society,   and the development of it is  automated. Moreover, the change of technology will lead the society change.  personally, I cannot totally agree with this idea,  because the technology is not independent, it tightly consists of the different needs of people. For example, the invention of first digital computer is partly due to the massive calculation requirement of the inventor-Atanasoff  and Berry.

The idea of cultural materialism mainly show the relation between technology and culture. Also, the author provide four traits of cultural materialism which are historical context, close textual analysis, political commitment and theoretical method. According to cultural materialism  Williams opposed technological determinism by emphasizing the social need and political intention as significant factors involved in the progressive technology. this is the idea which inspired me and i mentioned in the end of first paragraph.

One of my favorite director

This talented director is a man who both refined and soft violent man in my mind. He is the is a Taiwanese-born American film director-Ang Lee,he graduated  University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign , where he completed his bachelor’s degree in theater in 1980. He has won the Academy Award for Best Director twice.

I have been shocked and moved by his numbers of film.  I can not use few simple words to completely describe him,  he and his production both combined the contradicted traits. His film contains elegant atmosphere, but it also present some cruel reality. Such as the fantastic film Life of Pi and Brokeback Mountain. Life of Pi use numerous shots to show the beautiful adventure of a boy, however, in the end of this film, we realized this is terrified, cruel experience of a boy. Ang Lee utilizes a child story to reflect the philosophy, humanity and religion.  Those gorgeous scenes built high contrast with the inner meaning of this story.  I am recommend everyone to look at this perfect film.

Ang Lee had said the basic of filming a perfect film of this world is that to successfully direct a good film of family. Undoubtedly, Ang lee already directed lots of successful family film. Such as the film The Wedding Banquet, Pushing Hands, Eat Drink Man Woman which are both explored the relationships and conflicts between tradition and modernity, Eastern and Western. I am waiting his new film in the future, i believe he won’t let any one disappointed.
