Am I A Feminist?

Hurro my Interwebs,

This is kind of a heavy topic that I want to talk about today but it is really close to my heart, and that is: Feminism. Now there are a lot of issues around this topic, and so I’m here to clear some things up for those who might be against feminism for certain reasons or for those who might want to know my outlook on it. Disclaimer: if you don’t agree, that’s okay, I still respect your choices/decisions regarding this topic :3

The first and foremost biggest myth is that feminist hate men, we hate men because we think that they think they’re above us and we’re fighting for a single gender world. WRONG, many wrongs, I don’t hate men, in fact I know many guys who are for feminism. I think it’s unrealistic to fight for a world where men are our “slaves” and end up “beneath” us women. I’m not correct in saying that all feminist out there love men, there are some who regard sex or even having a relationship with a guy as a “non-feminist” behaviour. Some even believe that sex is a form of rape where the guy dominates the girl, which I personally believe is completely untrue.

However a lot of men ask: Well how about you pay for the bills the next time we go out? Open doors for us and make the first move? My response: Fucking fine, I’ll pay your bills, open your doors and make the bloody first move? Why not? Feminism is about diminishing these “cultural rules” that society has set up for us genders. When a 14-year-old boy was raped at knifepoint by a 20-year-old lady, it was feminists to supported him, rather than the men who all told him that he should have “enjoyed” it. Feminism is for the minority (which in this case is women) however it supports anyone who is feeling suppressed by society, gender and cultural values.

So why do we need feminism? We need feminism so that men aren’t constantly told to “grow a pair” and hide their emotions. We need feminism so that women aren’t told to “shut up” and “stay in the kitchen”. We need feminism so that rape culture can be demolished. We need feminism so that I can walk down the road at 2am in the morning and not have some creep cat call me and for my mother to anxiously worry about me getting attacked. We need feminism because society has found a system that is wrong, not only for women but for anyone who doesn’t fit under a “category”

Why do people say “grow some balls”? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding.”

I Hate Mondays

Hello Interweb!

I hate Mondays, not just because they mean a start of another week of uni, not just because I like to sleep until 2pm and I’m not allowed to do so and not because I normally miss breakfast 99% of the time because I am late.

Well… actually it is because of those reasons, but this isn’t the basis of this post today.

Today was different, apart from the usual horrid Monday rituals, for some reason it decides to throw some other bullshit in my face:

1. I thought that my first lecture started at 11:30 in which was I was horrendously wrong and instead it began at 10:30, which wouldn’t have been a big issue if that hadn’t of been the only lecture for that particular subject. LAMÈ.

2. When I went shopping in the weekend I decided to put all my cash in my pocket… which I never took up to place in my wallet… Therefore I only have the money on my card which isn’t too bad but I’d prefer not to touch it.

3. I was fired.
Yes my children, I was fired from my job, which I’m more annoyed than upset about. The issue was that I needed to work full time, however I can only muster a casual/part time amount of hours within a week and so my manager had already found enough workers to work full time that he decided that me working those small hours was not worth it. Which I understood. The issue with this was that I gave up my previous job when I found out that I had gained a new one, only to be “let go” about a month later, which leaves me jobless.

4. A new job opening has been found… except for the first time since the stone age I decided to wear something more casual and less formal, so that’s what I’ll be wearing to hand in my resume. Balls.

I hate Mondays.

New Harry Potter!?!?!?

Hello Interweb!

During 2011 all Potterfans were rewarded with the opening of JK Rowling’s new website Pottermore, where they could relive Harry Potter’s journey through the books in a now more convenient, visual and digital format. Us Potterfans were extremely vulnerable at this stage of our lives as the final movie has long come and gone in cinemas, this was a ray of hope within this dark period.

For those who don’t care for Harry Potter, or did not know about this to begin with, a small group (so about the first million) of fans were able to access the website before anyone else and BETA test the website. Being the nerd that I am, I, of course took up the challenge, which involved answering a short question on the website… Which I Googled…

Anyways that is not the point of the post.

However, this website ultimately became a dud, as much as I wanted it to be the next big thing, the content there just wasn’t engaging enough to keep me hooked on it for any longer than a couple of days. Despite this factor Rowling has continuously released private information on the World of Harry Potter within this website and the more loyal fans stayed on in hopes that there would be plenty more to learn from the writer.

And then yesterday this article was released

It basically states that there is the smallest chance that Rowling has also written an 8th book, one that occurs after the Deathly Hallows themselves. This small glimmer of hope was founded by the readers of Pottermore and many are almost completely convinced that another book will come out.

Whilst I am skeptical that Rowling is releasing another book – as I have read somewhere that she had told the press that she is no longer writing Harry Potter – I am slightly hopeful that this rumour is to come true and we will once again be lining up at 4am in the morning to get ourselves a copy of another magical book. Them nostalgic feels.

Many speculate that this book will not be revealed until the 31st of July… tomorrow, as this is both Daniel Radcliffe AND JK Rowling’s birthday. Hence the important events that often occur during this date within the books themselves.

Either way, us PotterHeads will keep our eyes closed, hands together and hearts open in case this proves to be true and that we are to be gifted again with another Harry Potter book.

To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.

The Holy Grail: The First Post

Hello Interweb,

So I’m rather awful at making friends and whilst the world wide web might be the exact place for someone like me, I highly doubt that this first post of mine can pull an audience of more than 3 individuals (mum, dad and my pet dog). Either way I’d like to welcome you to my blog, one out of the many that have decided to participate in Network Media at RMIT this semester, my name is Linda and I’m currently within my first year to becoming a Media student in Melbourne.

I don’t really know what you guys should expect from this post but I guess it’s just going to be a little about myself?

So the things I like…

I like…

I like…

Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Hannibal, Anime, Manga, – so pretty much anything pop-culture related I’ll probably like – honesty, food, anything beauty-related, ANIMALS, stability, chai lattés, Beyonce, Tumblr, HURRY PUTTER, an excessive amount of Youtube, Lana Del Rey, raspberries, Marina and the Diamonds, organisation, the colour pink and anything that doesn’t require me to get out of bed in the mornings.

If you were to ask me what I’m expecting from the next few months in class then the answer would be: I have no fucking idea… but I’m pretty excited about it.

I also work two separate jobs, one near home and one near uni.

When my parents were choosing my name, they decided to join their Chinese names together to form mine, Lin+Da=Linda. BAYUM. Bet you never heard a story like that before.

I have this weird fear of feet.

Panda’s are my favourite animal.

Once a month I turn into a unicorn and steal everybody’s left shoe in my street.

And that’s just a few things about myself!
