1 point from the “narratives” reading that i found interesting was the idea of non-conventional or non-fictional media still utilising traditional story structures such as a 3 act structures or character stereotypes. i had never previously considered news broadcasts or advertisements being able to tell stories using characters so that did open my eyes bit more to a more widespread way of telling stories across different mediums and genres.
the second point form the “narratives” reading was the difference between an “open” and “closed” narrative. I found this particularly fascinating because I am interested in tv and so being able to see and compare the difference in the characters and structural make up between film and tv has been very beneficial. i had never really noticed such drastic difference between the story telling methods of cinema and serial tv so i will definitely be taking this into consideration when brainstorming film ideas in the future.
