The evaluation…
This analysis is focusing on my communicative media, that is my emails and iMessage, anything and everything that involves me speaking to people via online media.
The difference between social media and communicative media, is that with communicative media, there’s more of a focus on communication and sharing a conversation between users; with social media there’s more of a focus on giving and less on receiving – for example, comments, likes, thumbs up and sharing. With communicative media, I used iMessage very frequently to communicate with friends, family and work colleagues. I had to FaceTime once for a work meeting, as well as this, emails are something I use daily – in conjunction with my calendar, my emails are something that I rely on for work. This piece of communicative media is vital to understanding and analysing how I use my media.
I’ve found that using communicative media as often as I do, there is more of a focus on virtual communication and less on personal, face-to-face, communication. This is really disheartening to see, especially for someone such as myself who thrives on speaking to others and connecting on a personal level. I really enjoy speaking to people face-to-face, and thus, communicative media through the use of online platforms is both distressing and disheartening to see in full-effect. I would say that through this, and since finishing my 7 day blogging project, I’ve made more of a focus on speaking to others and connecting personally.
