blog #14: does this hat suit me?

Today’s tutorial was purely focused on our Brief 1, our self-portraits. Today we spoke on each individual table talking about our own media artefacts. We were asked to put on 1 of 4 different hats as we passed judgement, criticism and positivity on everyone’s work. The hat feedback system, as founded by De Bono, is a way to comment on work without adopting a juvenile approach. There are originally 6 hats, but for this task only 4 hats were appropriate to use. These hats, defined by different colours, permitted the different types of feedback that one could give. These hats were labelled as the following:

YELLOW: WORKING WELL, POSITIVE
RED: INITIAL FEELINGS, GUT REACTIONS
BLACK: NOT QUITE RIGHT
GREEN: ALTERNATIVE THINKING

I received, generally, positive feedback on my Brief – however, I was informed of 3 different pieces which were scrutinised or advised to be amended on. For me these were my typing audio, my running video and my picture of a train. It made me surprisingly feel really good to get positive and negative feedback on my work as it highlighted the honesty from my peers. I never find it hard to give feedback as I’m an extremely honest and open person. If you don’t like what I have to say, then don’t listen!

I definitely have some new ideas from looking at my classmates’ work, I have never been good with photography as highlighted in my blog post #2. I’m hoping, as the course goes on, that my photography level can increase in order to gain better understanding of the crazy world of photography!
