Today’s task was to head out after our lecture and list all of our encounters with mediated interactions and communications by listing and recording these aforementioned pieces of media. We were challenged to look around Swanston Street through to Bourke Street. Being new to the area, I was able to really see and learn more about my surroundings, especially near RMIT. The following is a table documenting what I noticed:
UP HIGH | ON THE GROUND |
– logos – shop branding- signage
– graffiti – flyers- print media (e.g. newspapers & magazines) – branded rubbish
MID-GROUND | BACK-GROUND |
– tram advertising – bus advertising- people commuting – moving billboards
– crossing noises – shop music- background conversations
FOREGROUND | YOUR HAND |
– buskers – protesting- charity advertising – Big Issue sellers
– phone – music players (iPods)- print media
Noticing, rather than chatting or staring at a phone, as I strolled down Swanston Street really opened my eyes to everything surrounding me. My group was able to chat to a leader of a Tibetan protest which was extremely eye-opening. As well as this, we were able to notice some really intriguing advertising campaigns, and also notice conversations going on around us. I really enjoyed today’s lectorial exercise and will make a conscious effort to start noticing what is going on around me more!
Wow seems like you got a lot out of this exercise! Im interested to hear more 🙂
