Reflection – Week 6

When looking at my observations thus far, and each one’s filmic potential, I see several possibilities. Although Robin directed us to not write them with this in mind, I sort of wrote each one while imagining it visually, perhaps not specifically in a filmic sense, but I had strong images in my mind when writing each one.
The two that have the strongest potential for me are the two i wrote based on my weekend at a music festival in March. The first, a snapshot of the line for a burger stall, highlighting all the outfits and characters on display while in the fairly relaxed and normal situation of lining up at a food truck. I imagine this as a slow tracking shot, starting at the back of the line and moving towards the front, finally ending at the truck as someone is handed their order. Throughout you would hear the faint sound of distance dance music, as well as snippets of each conversation as we pass by. It’s near sunset and the light is beautiful, and as described in the original piece of writing, the revellers are dirty and tired, but also full of energy and enthusiasm. This would be a short, maybe 20 second piece, but could be really great if nailed.
Obviously this one is very lofty in terms of required resources and budget, so for now it will remain an idea and a dream, but I do love that I have a strong idea for a short little film just based on a random memory.
The other from that same trip that I think has potential is my piece about the two bus trips, there and back. I think this could work really well as two identical shots, of the individuals in their seats and of the inside of the bus, but the only difference is one is the bus up and one is the bus down. All the things I talk about in the observation could be achieved, however it would require a large crew & cast, and obviously a bus. So another one on the later base.
