FILM PROJECT 2 – Storyboards

Here are my early storyboards for the project, with the script currently in progress. I have a good idea of where I plan on shooting (location scouting blog post will come soon), and what shots I may go for. Click on the image to get a larger scale.

My first storyboard is the first image that came to my mind when I was thinking up this film, and what I intend to be the opening shot of the film. It features our main character in a long shot, standing on the corner of a lane (I have scouted and decided upon the actual shoot location), with his bicycle. I am imagining shooting this during the late afternoon with the nice warm light filling the screen.

The second storyboard is simply another version of the first, this time with the dealer having arrived and chatting to our main character. This will just be a brief shot before we move in closer to the pair.

This shot is a proposed establishing shot of the main house, where the majority of the film is set. This is based on my real house where we will most likely film. It will be a static shot of the house, with the main character approaching from the left on his bicycle.

This storyboard is of a medium shot, capturing the lane down the side of my house where our main character will stroll down to meet the roommate character.

This is another shot that came to my mind instantly as I imagined the film. It is a pedestal shot of our main character, starting from the feet and moving up to the face. This will take place at the start of the film, just as he’s standing on the street corner.

This is a proposed two shot of the friend characters sitting outside, from the perspective of the television they are looking at. I imagine them both equally in frame, staring blankly past the screen as they watch something. I imagine I will show this shot just as the main character arrives in the scene.

This storyboard is of a proposed medium shot that would take place in conjunction with shot 4. This shot is from inside the house, looking out the window as the main character pops his head in to talk to the roommate character.

This is a possible shot if I decide to make the roommate character a DJ. This shot will be from slightly above his perspective, looking down in a birds eye style upon the turntable and mixer. I will follow this shot up with close ups of the equipment in use.

This is a proposed close-up shot from the beginning of the film, showing the exchange between the dealer and the main character just after they’ve met.

This is a possible perspective shot of one of the friend characters rolling a cigarette while sitting outside. I think this could be an interesting detail to work into the scene.

This is a close up shot of the cigarette or joint being lit near the end of the film. It will feature the character in profile, as the paper is lit and burns.

This final shot is simply an idea, if I go along with the possible narrative surrounding the rat. However I am unsure if this will make it for practical reasons (finding a prop rat)
