Markouzis and Fessakis recognise that advancements in computer power and mobile technology, as well as improvements in accessibility of products such as PCs, mobile phones and tablets, allow for new media forms such as augmented reality to make there way into many people’s lives. They state that as Mobile Augments Reality (MAR) technology takes advantage of time, position, and user state context for digital interaction with the environment, and that this new level of emersion is particularly important for fields such as education where it could be taken seriously and make some very real changes to people’s lives. They are critical, however, of the ways AR already exists, looking at examples of ‘serious games’ to understand what works well. These reviews found that the mystery narrative genre, based on science fiction themes, is a successful genre to work in for AR since it provides a good framework for creating a prototype.
