Today we heard the final two presentations from Samantha and Corey, and wrote out some rough plans in terms of how we think we’ll be working and ho we might need to help us. Here’s a rough outline of what I thought might be happening for my project:
1st shoot: not necessarily a film shoot, but looking at fashion
no sound, no importance on lighting, cinematography, etc.
focus on costume – what does it say about a character?
probably do alone, although someone with an interest/knowledge in fashion (particularly 80s fashion) could be helpful
2nd/3rd shoot: shooting to replicate Wright, copying the kinds of shots he makes
could use someone to help with sound or light on the day, haven’t really planned it out. Will be really experimental/educational. Learning what it takes to film in this style (helping to understand what I’ll need to do/who I’ll need to help with the following shoots)
replicating the eight techniques I mentioned in my presentation
learn to edit and put together a short close up montage
4th shoot: shooting close up montage with character – costume involved/focussed on
could use someone to help with lighting or sound or A.D
Sound is important – getting foley sounds that are exaggerated sounds of the action happening
this project will really be informed by the previous ones, so I can’t really give a clear idea of what I’ll need yet
Other considerations
Haven’t decided on location. Considering it’s close up stuff, probably won’t need to get permission for a location, and will be able to film somewhere private. This might change of course.
I think I’d prefer to work with friends than actors, simply because the whole idea is to express character through film techniques and costume. Acting takes a backseat. Not a lot of acting needed for close up actions either.
Would like to shoot a lot on dslr, since a lot of it will probably me experimental exercises in learning how to shoot like Wright or develop a character. Perhaps when filming the close up montage with character I might use the cameras from class. Unsure yet.
