With this sketch we attempted to parody the video tutorial. We decided that in order to demonstrate the possible ways of parodying this online video genre, we would make two videos with the same content of a person giving a tutorial on how to make a paper plane, but in different manners. The first video features an insecure character who desperately tries to follow the ‘cool internet personalty’ style. His insecurity comes through both poor and forced line delivery, as well as his inability to actually make a paper plane. Comedy also comes from a cut from him struggling with a poorly folded plane to him holding a properly folded paper plane. The second video involves a more confident character as she straight forwardly states that she will be showing you how to make a ‘traditional paper plane’. Her confidence is warranted as she is easily able to make a proper paper plane. However, despite being educated in her ability to create paper planes, her amateurishness in basic video tutorial making is comically inadequate, as the video gives no assistance in the making of a paper plane as she essentially folds it out of frame in total silence.
Both of these show how parody brings a narrative element to the non-narrative genre of video tutorial, as the different types of amateurishness(scripted) demonstrated by the characters.
