Topshop Emporium // VIP Preview Breakfast Event

Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend the VIP Preview Breakfast Event for the opening of Melbourne’s third Topshop at the sparkling new Emporium mall in Melbourne’s CBD! Being the largest Topshop in the Southern Hemisphere, it has been said to compete with the overwhelmingly expansive Topshop in London’s Oxford Circus.

First thing’s first, I’m the realest  the breakfast. On the way to the event I said to my best friend and date for the morning, “how many bets they serve green smoothies and granola in jars?”. Her response? An eye roll and a “don’t get ahead of yourself, Kerri”. I had a hunch Topshop would take foodie inspiration from social media platforms, Tumblr and Instagram, just as I do, and to no surprise but much excitement, we were welcomed to an array of raw-vegan smoothies, ball jar granola parfaits (I can’t even describe how delicious they were), paleo pancakes, chocolatey/cinnamony/deliciousness balls and mini smashed avo toasties, all provided by the instagrammable “Thr1ve“, a trendy health-focused bar/restaurant located in Emporium’s drool-worthy food court. This high protein, low carb, gluten free, vegan spread confirmed Topshop’s desire to remain a trend driven and focused brand. I, for one, was not complaining.

While the store itself is spaciously beautiful and the leading high-street clothing upholds its trendy reputation, it by no means compares to the breathtaking scale and variety of the Oxford Circus flagship store. I felt that the 3-storey shopping mecca had more emphasis on the presentation of the store than on the clothing itself, and it lacked the variety that even Melbourne’s Chapel Street store possesses – let alone Oxford Circus. I understand that it hasn’t had the opportunity to accumulate various seasons of stock, but I didn’t find that there was an item of clothing that I just HAD to have, like I usually do. Alternatively, this season’s shoes and accessories were irresistible (holographic iPhone cases – can I get a HELL YEAH!?).

I left the store a mere 5 minutes prior to its opening to the general public, with a bunch of freebies from Topshop, Bella Box, Thr1ve, Happy Lab, Oral B and Gillette Venus, and a $74 rose gold rucksack of a dent in my $100 shopping spree courtesy of Topshop. The store is definitely one to check out for both guys and girls, with two levels of Topshop for women and one level of Topman. I know I’ll be back to spend my remaining spree allowance during breaks between classes at uni, and I’ll make sure head to Thr1ve for lunch, too!
