Triple R: Professional Community Radio.

3R is a national community radio station that lives in East Brunswick. The radio is fed by the community, and in turn the community ethos is reflected in all broadcasting. The greatest example of this are the sponsorship announcements that are fed through out a program. As Bruce stated, this shows how the station is ‘community – comercial’. Another example of this is the option to ‘subscribe’. In having the radio station community funded, the station has an independant voice to provide the listener with an alternative.

When visting the studio for the first time, the uniquness of the station struck me. I was blown away that the presenters are all volunteers as i think this is the best example of passion striking a chord.

It began in the 70’s at RMIT with an educational lisence, and this is still reflected in some of the programming to date. Melbourne Uni and RMIT are still on the board of 3R.  – Triple R was Triple J before Triple J –
